Be A Guardian

Introduction to the Project

“Be A Guardian” (BAG) project is one of the largest and most important projects of GFO. The project was initiated in February 2007 with the sole purpose of connecting poor but bright and hard working Vietnamese children with generous, kind-hearted guardians all over the world. Since its inception, the project’s Management Team and volunteers have been actively searching, accepting and providing financial supports for education to many poor children in Vietnam.

Target

The main beneficiaries of “Be A Guardian” project are those Vietnamese children who are below 18 years old, are in difficult situation but still manage to study well, and have a great need for financial support in order to continue going to school.

Methodology

Currently, the mode of sponsorship for each case is an one-time commitment of at least 1-year with monthly sponsorship of financial support of 500,000 VND (equivalent to 40 SGD or 30 USD).

The main activities of the project’s volunteers include:
  • Utilize the network of volunteers in Vietnam to collect necessary information about those poor children who study well and need financial help, verify, review, approve and publicize the cases widely to the public to attract sponsorship.
  • Connect the guardians and the cases, help guardians deliver the sponsorships directly to the sponsored cases. The one-year sponsorship (per month of 500,000 VND or 40 SGD or 30 USD) will be delivered directly to the sponsored case every 2-month.
  • Monitor closely the improvement of the sponsored cases, provide them necessary guidance, orientation and support, and make sure that sponsorships are appropriately used according to the project’s goals and objectives.
  • Update guardians with information about the sponsored cases every six (6) months, promote and facilitate communication and closer relationship between sponsors and sponsored cases through various supporting activities.

Project’s Progression

Up until now, “Be A Guardian” project has extended financial support to a lot of underprivileged children, helping them continue going to school despite their families’ difficult situations. As of to-date, the project has brought an estimated of 350 cases of underprivileged children to sponsors around the world.
